My teaching philosophy
Teachers play vital roles in the lives of the students in their classrooms. As a teacher I will try to make my classroom enjoyable through my teaching strategies. Beyond that, set the tone of the classrooms, build a warm environment, mentor and nurture students, become role models, and listen and look for signs of trouble.
The most common role a teacher plays in the classroom is to teach knowledge to children. There fore I will follow the national curriculum and will make sure that my teaching meets the guidelines.
Since, teachers also play an important role in the classroom when it comes to the environment; I will be very firm with all the students and will create a positive learning environment which is safe to all the students.
Teachers typically do not think of themselves as role models, however, inadvertently they are. So, as teacher I will be on time with well dress and will show good attitude to my students in and outside the school campus.
Mentoring is a natural role taken on by teachers, whether it is intentional or not. This can have positive or negative effects on children. Through mentoring I will encourages students to strive to be the best they can. This also includes encouraging students to enjoy learning.
My main aim is to help students learn the subject matter in a safe and enjoyable environment, so that they are able to succeed in whatever profession they pursue. Beside that, my aim is to equip them with all the skills that I can help them succeed.
Next to that, will take students away from class than simple facts and statistics; to do this, will add a variety of methods to my teaching.
Relating to students will help them better appreciate and listen to the things I say during class. Take an active interest in students that have a particularly hard time in my class to better motivate them to try harder.
Last and the most important thing is assessing and reporting. I will use different assessments techniques to assess the students and will give feedback to the respected stake holders withing the time.
Until recently, research into learning and teaching in universities has focused on what the teacher does rather than on what the learner does. However, recent research into student learning indicates what students do in order to learn is of the greatest importance. Following on from this research, educators have developed "learner-centred" or "Student-Centred" pedagogy that has significantly influenced our understanding of learning and teaching.
As Thomas Shuell has said, student-centred teaching is built on the assumption that "what the student does is actually more important in determining what is learned than what the teacher does" (T.J. Shuell, "Cognitive Conceptions of Learning" (1986), 429 ). Therefore, as an important part of my learning and teaching approach, UNSW emphasises student-centred and active learning approaches to engage students in their learning.
